Feline Leukemia

Feline Leukemia virus (FeLV) is considered a misnomer. This virus is not similar to leukemia in people, instead, it affects the cat's immune system. FeLV is easily spread between cats, mutual grooming, sharing a food or water bowl, or an infected cat sneezing through an open window screen are all examples of how the virus can be spread! Testing should be done prior to vaccination, and any cat that goes outside, or lives in a household with an indoor/outdoor cat should receive this "lifestyle" vaccine. Be sure to ask us at your next appointment if your cat(s) need the FeLV vaccine.
