What to Expect

Here at the Old Trolley Road Animal Clinic we believe you should expect high quality care as well as great service. Our goal has been to assemble a veterinary health care team committed to providing exceptional client service and veterinary health care.

Our facility features a full In House Diagnostic Laboratory, Digital X-Ray, Surgical and Dental Anesthetic Suites, Full Intensive Care Hospitalization, and out Patient Treatment.

First visit? Please come a few minutes early to fill out a new patient form, bring any of your pets prior medical history and a stool sample.

Annual visits

Your pet's annual veterinary visit will include a thorough nose to tail examination. Our veterinary team will assess the appropriate vaccination schedule for the life style of you and your pet. We also take the time to discuss any concerns as well as wellness and preventative care.

Puppy/Kitten Boosters

These first visits are very important in getting your pet off to a healthy start. Puppies and kittens generally need four sets of vaccinations given three weeks apart to booster their immunity to disease. We also ask that you bring a fresh fecal sample along on the first and second visit so we can make sure your pet is parasite free. During these visits Dr. Lawson will do a thorough examination, go over heartworm & flea prevention as well as answer any questions about training or nutrition you may have.

Wellness Visits/Preventative Care

We recommend regular wellness exams for the same reason your physician and dentist recommend them – if you can detect a problem in its early stages, it's more likely to be treated and resolved with less expense, less difficulty and better success.

Wellness exams should be done annually at minimum due to our pets aging 5-7 years for our 1 human year. Testing typically consists of routine blood work (to screen for diabetes, kidney, thyroid, liver disease or anemia) and radiography (to check for enlarged heart and organs, changes to the lungs, and tumors/masses).

Senior Care

As your pets age they are likely to develop "senior issues". Helping older pets live longer with their families and in more comfort in their later years is one of the greatest gifts you can give.

Most dogs will develop some degree of arthritis, but did you know that most dogs will not show the degree of pain they are in until the disease has progressed significantly?

Kidney disease is very common in our senior felines, but did you know most basic lab tests wont show kidney disease until 75% of the normal function is gone?

Working together, we can assist you in ensuring your pets' golden years are happy and as healthy as possible.

When its time to say "Goodbye"

Losing your loving companion can be the most difficult situation a person can ever confront. If necessary, we will help your pet to pass without pain and with dignity. When it's time to say, "Goodbye", the doctor and staff of the Old Trolley Road Animal Clinic will be here for you and your pet. We work with Pet Rest Cemetery & Cremation service of Charleston for any after care needs you may have.

At our animal clinic we strive to treat you and your four legged family member(s) with care and compassion as well as respect for your time. We pride ourselves on efficient scheduling for the convenience of our clients and patients.
