Judy Lawson grew up in an Air Force family. Her father was a Chaplin so they moved every 2 to 3 years. She graduated from Texas Woman's University as a nurse. She then went on to gain her Masters degree in Nursing at The University of Mississippi. After graduating, she came to South Carolina and attended MUSC nurse midwifery school where she became a certified nurse midwife.
She met Dr. Lawson while she was working at The University of North Carolina's hospital through mutual relatives. After they were married in 1976, they decided to open up their own veterinarian clinic here in Summerville in 1977. She helps him run the practice as well as the Howl-A-Day Inn boarding and grooming business next door. They have 5 kids together and they have all grown up and have all worked at some point in the clinic or the kennel. They also have 6 grandchildren.
